Today is your last chance to buy a £2 raffle ticket to be in with the chance of winning £100 worth of goodies from T&C Robinson.

For those who don’t know Becca is fund raising in aid of her mammoth challenge she has undertaken, running 5 Half Marathons this year in aid of The Evergreen Care Trust and the Alzheimer’s Society.

It all started back in March with the Grantham Half Marathon, followed by St Alban’s in June, the Great North Run in September, the Great Eastern in October and concludes tomorrow with the Great South Run.

The Evergreen Care Trust are a charity who support the elderly people of our community in Stamford. Whether it be to make their voices heard, befriending them or just practical support like provision of hot meals. Becca is involved in their soup delivery service which provides local elderly people with a soup lunch everyday. So please help support this great project.

Everything in the shop is included in the prize so whether you put it towards those long awaited Dubarry Boots, a cosy winter coat from Aigle or just to a selection of Christmas gifts, you won’t be disappointed! The lucky winner will be drawn on Monday 31st October.

If you can’t get down to the shop in Stamford today but would still like to support Becca then go to www.sponsor-me.org/5halfmarathonchallenge.

Busy start to the week yesterday, with a visit from Stuart, our lovely Briggs and Riley rep.

Briggs and Riley is a fantastic range of luggage from America. It’s a hard wearing, good quality range perfect for all your travelling needs.

Briggs and Riley was founded in 1993 in Half Moon Bay, California with one overriding mission – To provide high quality, functional and affordable bags, and to back those bags with a warranty that truly demonstrates their commitment to quality.

Key Selling Points:

The best feature I think about these suitcases and business bags are that they all come with a lifetime warranty. These even covers airline damage! They really are a fab company! If your suitcase ever breaks or is damaged then Briggs and Riley will repair or replace it totally free of charge and they do it in no time at all! If only all companies were like this.

Briggs and Riley suitcases are uniquely designed in that the handle system is on the outside of the case rather than taking up precious room inside. This not only allows for a bigger capacity but also lets you pack clothes flat so they stay wrinkle free! The handle is also dual height, ideal for taller people. They’re also incredibly durable as the metal is aircraft aluminum and the plastic is ABS (I had no idea what that meant but it’s the stuff motorcyle helmets are made from!

These brilliant bags also have a patented interlocking handle system allowing you to securely stack other pieces of the range onto your suitcase.

There are 5 collections from Briggs and Riley; the Baseline collection for hardcore business travellers, the Transcend collection for the leisure traveller, the B.R.X collection for the adventure traveller, the Verb collection for the on-the-go professional and the @Work collection for the organised business professional.

So have a look online in our Briggs and Riley section or come in to the shop today.

Wanting to prolong the life of your Dubarry’s? With these few care instructions you’ll get the maximum out of your boots leaving you looking great for longer!

Top Tip Yard or Stable Manure & Liquid waste are very corrosive. To prolong performance of your Dubarry boots ALWAYS scrub them with a soft brush and rinse thoroughly with fresh water after exposure.

Cleaning and Care Step 1

Cleaning your Boots – Clean the boots thoroughly ensuring that any substances that could be harmful to the footwear components are fully removed in order to prevent ongoing damage/deterioration and to prime the leather for further treatment.
Brush loose dirt from footwear and rinse lightly with fresh water
Apply Dubarry gel cleaner using a sponge or cloth
Rub over footwear in gentle circular motion
Rinse thoroughly (avoid over-soaking the leather)
Leave to dry naturally before applying creams, conditioners or protectors. Note that force-drying your boots can damage the leather fibres and lead to cracking
Always keep care products out of reach of children

Cleaning and Care Step 2

Treating and Preserving the Smooth Leather – Ensure thats the leather is clean and dry following step 1 above before treating the smooth leather. Special attention should be giveb to the foot of the boot as this has higher exposure to stress and potential corrosion. Treat smooth leathers with either Dubarry Leather Conditioner, or for Excessive/Heavily used boots or boots used around animal waste or other corrosive substances* we strongly recommend Dubarry Leather Cream (Blue Tube)

For Dubarry Leather Conditioner (lighter used boots)

Apply using a soft cloth
Rub sparingly into the surface
Apply as many thin coats as necessary for desired finish
Always keep care products out of reach of children

For Dubarry Leather Cream (heavily used or boots exposed to corrosive substances*)

Apply sparingly to smooth leather surfaces with a soft cloth
DO NOT apply to the nubuck or suede sections of the boots (you should use protector spray here – see step 3)
Excess cream can be wiped clean or allowed to soak into leather
Always keep care products out of reach of children

*Note: Dubarry do not recommend that Dubarry boots are used in areas where they may come into contact with corrosive substances. Use under these conditions will reduce the working life of your boots and may not be covered by manufacturer’s warantee,

Cleaning and Care Step 3

Protecting the Nubuck or Suede Leathers – Ensure that the leather is clean and dry following step 1 above before treating the Nubuck or Suede leathers. Treat the Nubuck or Suede Leathers with Dubarry Footwear Spray which will help to restore original appearance, increase water repellancy and offer increased stain resistance.
Spray protector over the nubuck or suede
Allow 5 minutes between applications
Wipe away excess from soles and welts
For best results allow to dry overnight

Storage – Step 4

When storing your boots… you should follow these guidelines
Boots should be cleaned, dried and treated before storing for a prolonged period
Boots will keep better shape over time when boot trees are inserted
Storage environment should be cool, dry and consistent
Avoid storage in direct sunlight, or other extreme conditions

All this talk about visits from the Magee rep got me wondering if people actually knew about them! So here’s a bit about the company.

Magee Clothing

The company was set up in 1866 by John Magee, originally a small drapery shop in Donegal town. Robert Temple, John Magee’s cousin bought the business in 1900 and started selling tweed all over Ireland and the UK.

Magee cloth is renowned for its luxurious quality and beautiful colours, inspired by nature in Donegal. In 1931 Howard Temple joined and the company expanded into making ready-to-wear garments. In 1960 Irish designers Sybil Connolly and Irene Gilbert used Donegal tweed in their collections; the cloth that was used by so many men and women who worked on the land, to keep out the damp and cold now became a fashion statement.

In 1974 Lynn Temple joined Magee and is the current Chairman. Magee started women’s wear in 1998. Some recent notable sponsorships have been the Irish rugby team, Munster and the Scotland R.F.U wear Magee. Magee has four shops in Ireland, the main one still on the original site where it began in 1866.

The range we stock is for ladies and ranges from gorgeous tweed breeks to smart long tweed jackets. The full range is available in the shop and online soon.

Here at the shop we had a wonderful visit from our Magee rep Louise and her daughter Hannah today! The fabulous double act brightened up our Friday morning enormously.

Louise and Hannah had come all the way from Herefordshire to look at Dubarry boots making us feel very honoured!

After showing Hannah the whole range of our Dubarry boots and Aigle boots and having tried on a few different styles Hannah fell in love with the gorgeous Clare Boots which looked so good on her! They were to be an 18th Birthday present for Hannah and what a great present too!

The boots were a hit with everyone, Mum Louise approved and after a few hints and tips on caring for them (see the ‘Caring for your Dubarry Boots’ post) they were firmly attached to Hannah’s feet and later on walked out the door. Check out our online store for further details on the Dubarry Clare Boot.

So after the decision had been made, it was time to assess the winter coats, you know, just in case a Christmas present idea was needed.

This is when Vicky, Becca’s friend, joined the party. Vicky who you may see in the shop running up to Christmas had just popped in for her weekly fussing session with Alfie Brown and was accosted and forced to try on a gorgeous Magee tweed coat that Louise pulled out of thin air! Hannah took a liking to the Aigle parka which you can see here looks great with her new boots! Vicky’s wearing the Magee Lynsfort jacket which is a lovely tweed available in pink or purple. Of course Alfie had to get involved too, he was loving all the fuss.
